Catching up on Operator Hour: write the steps first
Before you automate a task, get the steps out of your head. That was the main idea of Operator Hour on 17 September, the open call Mercer hosts.
- Ask yourself three questions (17 Sep). Done it more than once? Know what changed each time? Steps written down? Any no: not ready yet.
- Talk it through (17 Sep). Say the steps out loud. Keep them in one place: a folder, a phone recorder, or one long note.
- Any AI assistant works (10 Sep). Results come from your steps and files, not the brand.
- Give it seven days (10 Sep). People quit early, thinking they are doing it wrong. Keep using it for a week before you judge.
- Plan strong, build cheap (10 Sep). Plan with your tool's stronger version, and build with its cheaper one.
A week later he added a warning. One planning session with the most powerful version used about half of that version's weekly credits, and he called it not worth it. So plan with a stronger version than you build with, not always the strongest.
You're not building a robot. You're writing directions.
